Cast & Alloys is making positive strides towards implementing Industry 4.0 with the aim to be a data driven company. Industry 4.0 combines elements such as Internet, cloud computing, social media, artificial intelligence, and Robotics and applies these in a way to assist in production and distribution.
Today’s modern control systems have embedded software systems which generate an Internet address to connect and be addressed via Internet of Things or IOT. This way the products and means of production can be networked, enabling new ways of production, real time optimization and thus value creation. Industry 4.0 creates capabilities needed for smart factories there by reducing dependence on workforce for data, resulting in timely availability and accuracy of data. Remote monitoring of data is possible Industry 4.0 in synergy with ERP System enable autonomous decision-making processes, monitor assets and processes in real-time, and enable equally real-time connected value creation networks through early involvement of stakeholders, and vertical and horizontal integration.

We at Cast & Alloys are integrating our GDC Foundry manufacturing process through SCADA and IOT devices to acquire real-time data of molten Aluminum temperature, die temperature, pouring time, solidification time etc. This enables us track and trace each casting and help, analyse the data of faulty castings, and precisely conclude the reason for occurrence, thereby help us transform to a truly Digital Foundry.
All our manufacturing machines in our facility are fitted with IOT devices which transmit real- time production data to include, cycle time, actual production, unwanted delays, break down, machine parameter monitoring, tool management, manpower efficiency etc. This end-to-end information stream will help precisely calculate the cost per part and identify areas of improvement. Traceability of parts at multiple levels of production process is effectively established from the acquired data.
Industry 4.0 is not ‘something’ you realize overnight. You need a strategic and staged approach. All future manufacturing assets procured by the company has modern control systems that effectively integrate in the eco system of Industry 4.0. Data storage, data analysis and data security are very important for successful implementation and are challenges that need to be addressed as we progress and continue investing in newer technologies that help us realize our digitalization goal.
